GoldBod Funds Life-Saving Surgeries for Two Children at Korle Bu

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has extended a lifeline to two children in need of urgent medical care, donating GHS 81,940 to support life-saving surgical procedures at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

The financial support, channelled through GoldBod’s Special Intervention Programme, covered the full cost of surgeries for Judith Wosemeh and Jewel Awadzi, bringing relief to their families and offering renewed hope for recovery.

An amount of GHS 74,002 was allocated for Judith’s procedure, while GHS 7,938 was used to support Jewel’s treatment.

The donation was presented by Mrs. Gloria Precious Ankomah, Head of the Special Intervention Programme at GoldBod, on behalf of the institution.

Receiving the support on behalf of the hospital was Dr. Patrick Bankah, Head of the Department of Surgery.

Dr. Bankah commended GoldBod for the timely intervention, noting that such support plays a critical role in easing the financial burden on families while allowing medical teams to focus fully on delivering quality care.

“This support comes at a crucial time and will go a long way to ensure these children receive the care they urgently need,” he said, expressing appreciation on behalf of the hospital.

The families of the beneficiaries also expressed heartfelt gratitude to GoldBod, describing the donation as a major relief in a moment of distress and uncertainty.

The intervention forms part of GoldBod’s broader commitment to contributing to national development beyond its core mandate in the gold sector.

Through targeted social impact initiatives, the institution continues to support critical areas such as healthcare and education among others, particularly for vulnerable individuals who may otherwise be unable to access essential treatment.

As GoldBod strengthens its role in Ghana’s economic transformation, it is also steadily building a record of social responsibility, demonstrating that national institutions can play a meaningful role in improving lives, one intervention at a time.
