The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has extended life-saving financial support to two Ghanaians battling brain tumours, reaffirming its commitment to improving lives through its Special Intervention Programme.
The beneficiaries, 56-year-old Rebecca Ntsiful and Abraham Hayford, received financial assistance from GoldBod to undergo urgent neurosurgical procedures after medical assessments confirmed the critical nature of their conditions.
Mrs. Rebecca Ntsiful was diagnosed with a right frontal primary brain tumour and had been receiving treatment under the Neurosurgery Unit of the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital. Following a request for financial assistance, GoldBod approved and paid GH¢60,500 to cover the cost of a craniotomy and excision of the brain tumour, a procedure deemed necessary to save her life and improve her quality of life.
In a separate intervention, GoldBod provided GH¢110,221.37 to support the treatment of Abraham Hayford, a carpenter from Mamfe-Akuapem, who was diagnosed with pituitary macroadenoma after years of deteriorating health.
Mr. Hayford’s medical journey began in 2023 when he sought treatment for what was initially believed to be glaucoma. However, after undergoing further examinations at several health facilities, specialists confirmed that he was suffering from a pituitary macroadenoma, a serious brain tumour requiring immediate surgical intervention.
The financial support enabled him to undergo an Endonasal Excision of Macroadenoma at the Accra Medical Centre, offering renewed hope for his recovery.
Before approving the financial assistance, Head of GoldBod’s Special Intervention Programme Unit, Mrs. Gloria Precious Ankomah undertook a comprehensive verification process to ensure the authenticity and urgency of both requests.
The verification exercise included a thorough review of medical reports and supporting documentation, cross-checking of information submitted by the applicants, and direct engagement with the attending neurosurgeons to confirm the diagnoses, understand the beneficiaries’ medical conditions, and verify the necessity of the recommended surgical procedures.
The rigorous assessment reflects GoldBod’s commitment to ensuring that assistance under its Special Intervention Programme reaches deserving beneficiaries through a transparent and accountable process.
The interventions form part of GoldBod’s broader corporate social responsibility agenda, which seeks to provide timely support to vulnerable individuals facing critical medical conditions and other humanitarian challenges.
Beyond its statutory mandate of regulating and formalising Ghana’s gold trading sector, GoldBod continues to demonstrate its commitment to social impact by investing in initiatives that improve the welfare of Ghanaians and contribute to national development.
By supporting access to life-saving healthcare, GoldBod continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and families while reinforcing its commitment to serving the people of Ghana beyond the gold industry.
