Ghana Gold Board

Goldbod’s track-and-trace system commences in first quarter of 2026- CEO hints

The Ghana Gold Board is set to implement and integrate its track and trace system aimed at ensuring ethical and transparent sourcing of gold.

The system – which is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of the year 2026 according to Sammy Gyamfi, the Chief Executive Officer of Goldbod – will help eliminate fraud and trace every gram of gold produced in Ghana and purchased by the Gold Board to its source.

The CEO made this disclosure on ‘Key Points’, a news analysis program on TV3.

“We have given timelines that by the first quarter of next year, we will have a track-and-trace system, which has never happened since Ghana became Ghana. This system will allow us to trace every gram of gold produced in Ghana and purchased by the Gold Board to its source,” he said

The track-and-trace initiative is a key component of state agency to strengthen its vision of sanitizing gold trade and promote compliance.

This requirement is enshrined in Section 31X of the Gold Board Act (Act 1140), which was passed by Parliament in 2025.

“Gold is bought in offices in district and regional capitals, not directly from mining sites. So when a buyer in Koforidua receives gold nuggets or powder, that person may not have the technology to confirm whether the seller is licensed,” he explained

President John Dramani Mahama in June this year reaffirmed the Ghana Gold Board’s (GoldBod) strong commitment to promoting responsible and sustainable mining in Ghana.

Speaking at the Mining in Motion Summit, President Mahama announced that GoldBod will soon introduce a track-and-trace system to ensure the ethical and transparent sourcing of gold.
