Parliament will pass Goldbod bill before it goes on recess – Sammy Gyamfi

The Parliament of Ghana is expected to pass the GoldBod Bill into law, barring any unforeseen hitches. The Managing Director of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC), Sammy Gyamfi, says extensive stakeholder engagements and consultations informed the drafting of the bill, making it robust and comprehensive.

Speaking to Accra-based Joy News, Mr. Gyamfi revealed that Members of Parliament had undertaken rigorous scrutiny of the proposed legislation to ensure it adequately addresses the challenges within Ghana’s gold trading sector.

The Ghana Gold Board Bill, 2025, has been laid before Parliament to establish the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) as the statutory body responsible for regulating the buying, selling, assaying, and export of gold, while contributing to the generation of foreign exchange for the country.

According to the government, the proposed GoldBod will play a central role in formalizing gold trading within the artisanal and small-scale mining sector, improving traceability across the gold value chain, and advancing Ghana’s efforts to secure certification from the London Bullion Market Association (LBMA).

Following the bill's introduction in Parliament, First Deputy Speaker Bernard Ahiafor referred it to the Finance Committee and the Lands and Natural Resources Committee for further consideration and the submission of a joint report.

“Honourable Members, the Ghana Gold Board Bill, 2025, is presented and read for the first time and is accordingly referred to the Finance Committee and the Lands and Natural Resources Committee for consideration and report,” the First Deputy Speaker announced.
