GoldBod begins nationwide enforcement of mandatory gold trading receipts

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has begun a nationwide enforcement exercise to ensure that all licensed buyers in the gold trading sector comply with the mandatory issuance of GoldBod receipts.

The policy requires that all licensed aggregators, self-financed aggregators, as well as Tier 1 and Tier 2 buyers, issue GoldBod receipts for every gold transaction. According to the Board, the issuance of receipts is not only a compulsory requirement but also a critical condition for the validity of all gold trades in the country.

As part of the enforcement drive, GoldBod has deployed a special Taskforce and Field Inspectors across the country to monitor compliance. Licensed buyers are expected to make their receipt booklets available for inspection and cooperate fully with the inspection teams.

GoldBod has also urged small-scale miners and gold traders to demand official receipts for every transaction conducted with licensed buyers.

In a statement issued on Monday 18 August, the Board reminded stakeholders that the failure to issue GoldBod receipts constitutes a serious offence and could result in severe sanctions, including suspension or revocation of trading licenses.

GoldBod further advised licensed buyers who require assistance in acquiring receipt booklets to contact its Licensing and Regulatory Unit for support.

This move, according to industry watchers, is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen transparency and accountability in Ghana’s gold sector.
