GoldBod Extends Breast Cancer Screening to Women in Sefwi Wiawso

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has extended its breast cancer awareness and screening campaign to women in Sefwi Wiawso in the Western North Region, reaffirming its commitment to supporting the welfare of mining communities beyond its core gold trading mandate.

The event, organised by GoldBod’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Unit in collaboration with the Special Intervention Programmes Unit, took place on Thursday, October 22, 2026, at the Sefwi Boako Health Centre as part of activities marking Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The programme began with an awareness walk through the town, followed by an educational session and breast cancer screening exercise involving women and students from Bennie Apenteng Senior High School.

Deputy Head of CSR at GoldBod, Roseline Bonaparte, expressed appreciation to participants for their turnout, emphasising the Board’s recognition of women in mining communities as important stakeholders in its operations.

She explained that GoldBod’s responsibilities extend beyond gold trading to include initiatives that deliver positive social impact, particularly in communities connected to Ghana’s mining industry.

The Acting Municipal Director of Health Services, Rebecca Armoo, urged women to prioritise early detection and seek medical attention whenever they noticed unusual lumps or other changes in their breasts.

She stressed that prompt assessment was essential to identifying and managing potential breast cancer.

Yaa Dufa Asare-Bediako, Acting Western Regional Director of the Department of Gender, conveyed greetings from the Regional Minister and the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection.

She described breast cancer awareness as an important campaign for the Ministry and encouraged women to participate actively in screening programmes.

A Physician Assistant, Godfred Kabenla Jesus, educated participants on breast cancer risk factors and prevention, urging women to seek timely medical care to improve treatment outcomes.

A nurse from Sefwi Wiawso Government Hospital demonstrated breast self-examination, while nurses and midwives also from the municipal hospital, Boako and Anyinabrim health centres supported the screening exercise.

The initiative forms part of GoldBod’s broader commitment to promoting health awareness and improving community wellbeing through targeted social interventions.
