GoldBod, GGSA, and Lands Ministry align on geological mapping for sustainable mining

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has held discussions with the Ghana Geological Survey Authority (GGSA), the Minerals Commission (MinCom), and the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources to formalize arrangements for geological investigations into blocked and mineralized areas earmarked for model small-scale mines.

The meeting forms part of efforts under GoldBod’s Mining Support Program, which aims to promote responsible mining and strengthen Ghana’s small-scale mining framework.

The collaboration will leverage the GGSA’s technical expertise to generate credible geological data that will guide investment decisions, improve transparency in mineral resource management, and enhance community participation in the mining value chain.

Officials from the participating institutions expressed optimism that the partnership would accelerate the establishment of model small-scale mines, helping to demonstrate best practices in environmental management, productivity, and value addition.

The initiative aligns with the government’s broader vision of sustainable resource governance, positioning Ghana as a leader in data-driven, inclusive, and responsible mining.

Present at the meeting were GoldBod CEO Sammy Gyamfi and his deputy, Richard Nunekpeku; Chief Advisor to the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Prof. Jerry Samuel Yaw Kuma; CEO of the Minerals Commission, Isaac Tandoh; GGSA boss Isaac K. Mwinbelle; and Director of Communication at the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, Mawusi Ama Mawuenyefia.
