GoldBod opens licensing for Jewellery, Fabrication and Refinery

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has officially commenced the licensing process for Jewellery and Fabrication Licences as well as Refinery Licences, effective October 22, 2025.

As a result, all existing and previous licences issued by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources for gold refining and jewellery fabrication are no longer valid under the new law.

Existing operators are therefore required to regularise their activities by applying for new GoldBod licences before December 31, 2025.

Consequently, persons who operate gold refining or jewellery fabrication businesses after the deadline without a valid licence will be dealt with according to the law.

The new licensing regime forms part of the Board’s mandate under the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140), to formalise downstream gold value addition, strengthen regulatory compliance, and promote sustainable growth in the industry.

The new licensing categories include:

Category A: For Ghanaian artisans and small-scale jewellery producers.

Category B: For medium-sized Ghanaian-owned jewellery manufacturers producing for local and export markets.

Category C: For large-scale local and foreign companies.

Refinery Licence: For entities seeking to operate gold refineries in Ghana.

Applications are to be submitted exclusively online via the official GoldBod website, as manual or in-person submissions will not be accepted.
