Goldbod/PMMC generates over $8billion in gold export from January to October 2025
The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) and the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) have generated more than US$8 billion in foreign exchange from Ghana’s small-scale gold exports between January and October 15, 2025.
The significant revenue stream is expected to boost Ghana’s foreign reserves and support the country’s broader economic recovery efforts.
The state agency, which has the authority to license persons engaged in gold trading, exported 81,719.23 kilograms of gold from the small-scale mining sector, valued at approximately US$8.06 billion.
The new figure represents a significant increase from the US$4.61 billion recorded in 2024, when approximately 42,863.23 kilograms of gold were exported from the small-scale mining sector.
The 2024 export revenue was surpassed during the first half of 2025, with small-scale gold exports generating more than US$5 billion and exceeding the total export revenue recorded for the whole of 2024.
GoldBod attributed the strong performance in gold exports to several factors, including aggressive reforms, strict regulatory oversight, and tighter controls across the gold supply chain.
The measures are aimed at reducing smuggling, improving compliance, strengthening transparency, and ensuring that a greater share of Ghana’s gold revenues flows through the formal economy.
