Shatta Wale, Medikal Pay Courtesy Call on GoldBod CEO to Explore Partnership on Value Addition

Ghanaian music icons Shatta Wale and Medikal have paid a courtesy call on the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, Esq., to explore a strategic partnership aimed at promoting Ghanaian-made jewellery and advancing the country’s value addition agenda.

The meeting, held on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at the GoldBod Headquarters in Accra, centred on opportunities for collaboration between GoldBod, its subsidiary GoldBod Jewellery Limited, and Ghana’s creative industry to showcase locally manufactured gold jewellery on both domestic and international platforms.

Welcoming the two artistes, Mr. Gyamfi expressed delight at their visit, describing it as a demonstration of the growing interest among influential personalities in supporting GoldBod’s mandate of transforming Ghana’s gold industry.

He took the artistes through the operations of GoldBod and its subsidiary, GoldBod Jewellery Limited, highlighting the institution’s efforts to promote local value addition through jewellery manufacturing, gold refining, and responsible gold trading.

Speaking on behalf of the duo, Shatta Wale explained that the visit was motivated by his desire to collaborate with GoldBod and GoldBod Jewellery Limited during his upcoming ShattaFest UK event.

According to the award-winning dancehall artiste, stronger partnerships between corporate institutions and the creative arts industry are essential to promoting Ghanaian products and brands on the global stage.

He observed that collaborations between the two sectors have often been limited and expressed his determination to help bridge that gap by working with GoldBod to showcase Ghanaian craftsmanship through jewellery.

Shatta Wale also pledged his personal support for the promotion of GoldBod Jewellery, stating his readiness to serve as an ambassador for the brand and help increase its visibility both locally and internationally.

Rapper Medikal also welcomed the prospect of working with GoldBod, describing the meeting as an honour and an opportunity to contribute to a national cause.

He noted that musicians frequently showcase jewellery in their music videos and public appearances but acknowledged that much of it is sourced from outside Ghana.

Medikal said he and Shatta Wale are committed to changing that narrative by patronising jewellery produced by GoldBod Jewellery Limited and incorporating Made-in-Ghana gold jewellery into their productions.

He expressed confidence that such a move would not only promote Ghanaian craftsmanship but also encourage greater patronage of locally manufactured jewellery while projecting the country’s gold industry to international audiences.

Responding to the proposal, Mr. Gyamfi commended the artistes for their patriotic initiative and willingness to champion Ghanaian products.

He described Shatta Wale and Medikal as global entertainment icons whose influence could significantly enhance the visibility of GoldBod Jewellery and Ghana’s broader value addition agenda.

The GoldBod CEO explained that promoting local gold refining and jewellery manufacturing remains a key priority under President John Dramani Mahama’s economic transformation agenda, which seeks to maximise value from Ghana’s natural resources.

He noted that, for decades, Ghana exported much of its gold in raw form with limited local value retention, a trend government is determined to reverse through strategic investments in refining, jewellery production, and downstream industries.

Mr. Gyamfi reaffirmed GoldBod’s commitment to partnering with the creative industry, stating that collaborations with influential Ghanaian artistes would play an important role in positioning GoldBod Jewellery as a globally competitive brand.

He added that such partnerships would not only promote Made-in-Ghana jewellery but also contribute to job creation, industrialisation, increased foreign exchange earnings, and the country’s broader vision of becoming a leading hub for gold value addition in Africa.
