200 Women Screened as GoldBod Takes Breast Cancer Campaign to Pakyi No. 2
The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod)
has extended its breast cancer awareness and community health screening
campaign to Pakyi No. 2 in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti Region,
providing residents with free health education and screening services as part
of activities marking Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The programme, held on October
20, 2026, at the Church of Pentecost, Pakyi No. 2, was organised in
collaboration with the Amansie West District Assembly and the District Health
Directorate.
Beyond breast cancer screening,
the outreach offered free checks for hypertension, diabetes, eye conditions and
malaria, as part of efforts to promote early detection and encourage regular
health screening among community members.
The District Director of Health
Services, Pharm. Bernard Badu Bediako, welcomed the initiative and commended
GoldBod for supporting the district’s health promotion efforts.
He urged residents to take
advantage of the free services, stressing that early detection and regular
screening could help prevent serious health complications.
The District Chief Executive,
Hon. Prince Moris Manu, also encouraged community members to prioritise their
health through regular screening, describing a healthy population as essential
to community development.
In a goodwill message, a
representative of GoldBod reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to supporting
community health initiatives, noting that its interventions extend beyond its
core gold sector responsibilities.
The screening exercise recorded
200 women screened for breast cancer, while 165 people underwent blood pressure
and blood sugar checks. A further 209 participants received eye examinations.
Health workers identified 21
cases of elevated blood pressure, four cases of elevated blood sugar, five
breast abnormalities and five eye conditions requiring follow-up. In all, 35
people were referred to health facilities for further medical attention.
The programme attracted a strong
turnout, including women, men, children and schoolgirls, reflecting broad
community participation in the campaign.
The initiative forms part of
GoldBod’s wider commitment to supporting health awareness and improving access
to essential services in communities across Ghana.
