GoldBod Board Strengthened as BoG Governor Names Matilda Asante-Asiedu Representative

The Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama, has appointed Second Deputy Governor, Mrs. Matilda Asante-Asiedu, as his representative on the Board of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod).

In a letter dated May 11, 2026, and addressed to the Chairman of the GoldBod Board, the Governor formally notified the Board of Mrs. Asante-Asiedu’s appointment, authorising her to attend and fully participate in GoldBod Board meetings on his behalf, effective Monday, May 11, 2026.

The appointment gives Mrs. Asante-Asiedu the authority to represent the Governor at GoldBod Board deliberations and to exercise all rights and responsibilities vested in him as a member of the Board.

The Governor, in the letter, requested the GoldBod Board to extend the necessary courtesies to Mrs. Asante-Asiedu to enable her effectively carry out the responsibilities associated with the role.

The development further strengthens the institutional link between the Bank of Ghana and GoldBod, whose operations are closely connected to Ghana’s gold trade, foreign exchange management and the country’s broader efforts to maximise the economic value of its gold resources.

GoldBod, established under the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140), has been at the centre of reforms aimed at bringing greater structure, transparency and accountability to Ghana’s gold trading ecosystem.

The Board’s mandate covers the purchase, sale, refining and export of gold, as well as measures to formalise the artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) sector and improve the integrity of gold entering the formal trading system.

The Bank of Ghana has also remained an important institutional partner in Ghana’s gold sector, particularly in relation to the country’s gold-for-reserves strategy and the use of gold to support foreign exchange and reserve management.

Mrs. Asante-Asiedu’s appointment, therefore, places a senior Bank of Ghana official directly on the governing Board of GoldBod, providing representation for the Governor in the Board’s deliberations and decision-making.

The appointment takes effect from May 11, 2026, according to the Governor’s letter.
