GoldBod Marks Pink October with Breast Cancer Screening at Banda Nkwanta
The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod)
has organised a breast cancer awareness and screening exercise at Banda Nkwanta
in the Bole Municipality of the Savannah Region, as part of its commitment to
improving healthcare access in mining communities.
The exercise, conducted by nurses
and midwives from the Banda Nkwanta CHPS Compound, provided women with breast
cancer education and screening services, with emphasis on the importance of
early detection.
The Director of Health Services
at the Bole Municipal Health Directorate, Mr. Daniel Dindiok Dubik, commended
GoldBod for its financial support and active participation in the programme.
He educated the women on breast
cancer and its associated risk factors, urging them to prioritise regular
screening and seek medical attention promptly.
GoldBod’s Director of Corporate
Social Responsibility (CSR), Mr. Abukari Dawuni, who conveyed greetings from
the Chief Executive Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, Esq., described the people of Banda
Nkwanta as important stakeholders of the Board.
He noted that mining communities
contribute significantly to Ghana’s economic development and deserve support
through meaningful social interventions, particularly in healthcare.
The Deputy Head of CSR, Roseline
Bonaparte, reaffirmed GoldBod’s commitment to its social responsibilities
beyond its core mandate.
She assured participants that
women identified with suspicious breast lumps would receive further assistance
through the Board’s Special Intervention Unit to facilitate onward medical
treatment.
The exercise forms part of
GoldBod’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month activities, aimed at promoting
preventive healthcare and supporting the wellbeing of communities that
contribute to Ghana’s gold industry.
