NPA CEO Credits GoldBod for Improved Forex Availability to Fuel Importers
The Chief Executive Officer of
the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe, Esq., said, interventions
by the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) have contributed to improved foreign exchange
availability for petroleum importers, helping to ease currency-related
pressures on the importation of refined petroleum products into the country.
He mentioned that GoldBod’s improved
access to foreign exchange for Bulk Distribution Companies (BDCs) had helped
contain importation costs and limit the extent to which currency-related
expenses were transferred to consumers.
Speaking in an interview on
Eyewitness News on Thursday, November 5, 2026, Mr. Tamakloe attributed the
improvement partly to interventions by GoldBod and the Bank of Ghana, which he
said had strengthened the country's reserve position and supported foreign
exchange availability for petroleum imports.
He explained that the increased
availability of foreign exchange had become an important intervention in
managing petroleum import costs, particularly amid rising international crude
oil prices.
Mr. Tamakloe noted that the
improved forex situation was complemented by other government measures aimed at
cushioning consumers against rising fuel prices.
The acknowledgement by the NPA
Chief Executive highlights the growing significance of GoldBod's gold-sector
interventions beyond the minerals industry, particularly in supporting foreign
exchange mobilisation, strengthening Ghana's external position and improving
access to foreign currency for critical sectors of the economy.
Through its gold purchase, export
and foreign exchange mobilisation activities, GoldBod continues to contribute
to national economic stability and the availability of foreign exchange for
productive and essential economic activities.
